Royal River Cruise

Though Beijing is not located directly on the ocean, as the capital for many dynasties, there is unique royal river that you can enjoy.

Beijing Changhe River dates back to over 800 years. It used to a Royal River in Ming Dynasty and in Qing Dynasty. After dredging and digging, Changhe River developed into a special tour route for royal families from the inner city through Longevity Temples to the Summer Palace. The port in Zizhuyuan Park is where, Empress dowager Cixi used to take a rest on her way to the Summer Palace in Qing Dynasty.

This journey on water takes 1 hour, starting from the dock at Beijing Exhibition Center. Below are the interesting sites you will have the chance to see during the cruise:

1. Beijing Exhibition Center - Built in October 1956, represents memory of sweet marriage between China and ex-Soviet Union.

2. Willow Area - Beautiful especially during the spring time. It's recorded that once the emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty wrote the poem comparing the deep woods of willows to a wonderland penlai (a fabled Shangri-la of immortals).

3. Longevity Temple - Called "mini-forbidden city", the temple is a place for worshiping Buddha, built in 1403 (Ming Dynasty).

4. Ziyu Bay - Ancient style royal wharf and royal Palace. It is where the empress dowager Cixi once took short rest here on her way to the Summer Place.

5. Purple Bamboo Park - This park is full of purple bamboo. You will find many holiday-makers there.

6. National Library - Asia's largest public library, with the book volumes of over 25,000,000.

7. Beijing Zoo - A century-old zoo with over animals of 600.

8. Summer Palace - The best-preserved imperial garden in the world, well-known for its centralized architectural masterpieces as well as scenic beauties.
